Adam in the Hospital...Day 3

Well...Adam was supposed to go home yesterday, but things seem to go down hill. Nothing is moving in his abdomen, so they have been concerned that he has an obstruction. This would mean that he needs surgery again. However, we just found out that he has an Ileus. Please see below for details.

Like an obstruction of the intestines, ileus prevents the passage of intestinal contents. Unlike a mechanical obstruction, though, ileus rarely leads to rupture.

Ileus commonly occurs for 24 to 72 hours after abdominal surgery. It may also be caused by an infection or a blood clot inside the abdomen, atherosclerosis that reduces the blood supply to the intestine, or an injury to an intestinal artery or vein. Disorders outside the intestine may cause ileus, such as kidney failure or abnormal levels of blood electrolytes—low potassium or high calcium levels, for example.

Basically...his intestines has a kink in it and is not working properly. The good news is that this should not require surgery and should heal by just walking around. Walking isn't much fun for him, but it should get better within a couple of days.

Please continue to pray for him. He has been so sick! Hopefully, he will get better really soon.

Gasp!!!! I haven't been on here because of my party preparations and painting frenzy. I am soooo sorry. How is he feeling now? Did the kink work itself out?
