The Alaskan Wildlife - Land Mammals

Moose are like deer here in the east. They seem to be everywhere although it took us a couple days to spot one. After that we seemed to see them everywhere and eventually became so common we began to lose interest in seeing them. (Probably because the bull’s don’t have horns this time of year or that would have boosted the interest level).

We unfortunately did not see any Grizzly bear on our trip which was the biggest disappointment that I had. We did however get to see a black bear near Fairbanks.

Caribou were out while we were there. We saw a few in Soldotna and even more in Denali.

Mountain Goats are everywhere in the Seward area. We had seen them beside the road on Seward Highway and on our boat cruise.

We also saw an Alaskan Marmot. He led us down the path back to the van so we wouldn’t get lost.
